Shelley Slaughter displays quilt with Brenda Dobro and photo of her father, Robert
A beautiful quilt has been donated to the Delta Hospital Foundation by Brenda Dobro of Tsawwassen. The quilt was handmade by her 86 year old mother, Sylvia Haugen and given in loving memory of Sylvia’s husband, Robert.
In 1997 Robert Haugen suffered a heart attack while visiting from Saskatchewan and was a patient at Delta Hospital for a short time before passing away. “The care and compassion that my father and family received helped us through a difficult time and we are grateful for the support the doctors and staff gave us,” said Dobro.
The quilt is currently on display in the Delta Hospital Foundation offices and will also be at the Ladner Village Quilt Walk & Classic Car Show Sunday August 16. Sponsored by the Ladner Business Association, this will be the sixth year of the annual event which attracts 10,000 people each summer. About three hundred quilts will be hung for display in shop windows throughout Ladner Village.
All Quilt Walk entry fees are donated to Delta Hospital and the queen-size quilt donated by Dobro will be raffled off. Tickets, which are selling for $5 each or 5 for $20, will be sold at the event and are currently available at the Foundation or call 604-940-9695. |
