On June 8 Bob Wilkinson, President of Royal Canadian Legion #289 Tsawwassen, presented a cheque for $4,000 to the Delta Hospital Foundation towards the purchase of a new OR light. The new light will allow for the best visibility of the patient and specifically, the surgical site that directly affects the time, technique, and outcome of a given procedure.
The local Legion raises money through their annual poppy fund, general activities and gaming events. Their meat draw, open to the public, is every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 4 to 6 pm. Established 15 years ago, the Tsawwassen branch has 250 members, a mixture of both men and women. New members are always welcome and do not need to be veterans, only Canadian or British subjects.
On June 19 at 8 pm, the Vancouver Blues Society band is returning to once again perform at the Tsawwassen clubhouse, located at 22-1835 56th Street. With proceeds going to charity, tickets are $20 for non-members or $15 for members and are available at the Legion, Ladner Village Hardware or by calling 604-943-0232. This is the first of 6 events over the next 6 months that will be open to the public. Future performers include Vancouver-based blues band Incognito and a celebrity impersonator.
Over the past 5 years, the Legion has donated over $100,000 towards local organizations such as the Delta Hospital Foundation, Air Cadets and the Delta Police Pipe Band. |
